Ryan Garcia Stops Conor Benn To Retain the WBC Welterweight Title.

Las Vegas- Ryan Garcia retained his WBC welterweight title with a dominant second-round TKO of Conor Benn on September 12, 2026, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The American champion needed just 1:25 of Round 2 to stop the British challenger in what became a mismatch on Zuffa Boxing’s high-profile card

Garcia (26-2, 21 KOs) entered as a heavy favorite making his first title defense after winning the belt against Mario Barrios earlier in the year. Benn (25-2, 14 KOs), fighting at 147 pounds for the first time in more than four years and in his first world title shot, pressed forward aggressively from the opening bell but paid a steep price.

How the Fight Unfolded

Round 1 featured Benn charging in while Garcia used footwork, a sharp jab, and his trademark left hook to keep the challenger at bay. Garcia landed clean counters, including an uppercut when Benn ducked, and controlled the pace despite Benn’s pressure. Most observers scored the round for the champion.

The end came quickly in Round 2. Benn continued to walk forward. Garcia timed him with a heavy right hand that sent Benn to the canvas. Benn beat the count but was clearly hurt and unsteady. Garcia immediately closed the distance, pinning Benn against the ropes and unleashing a barrage of left hooks and right hands. Referee Thomas Taylor stepped in at 1:25 to wave it off.

Garcia had predicted a stoppage inside five rounds and delivered well ahead of that timeline. “I knew he would bring the pressure,” Garcia said afterward. “I felt the shots and thought ‘I’ll let him have his way,’ but I knew it was reckless and you can’t do that with me.” He later called out WBA welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez for a unification bout. Lopez and his father briefly entered the ring area after the fight.

Benn, who went to the hospital for checks, later said it “wasn’t his night.” The loss marked his second professional defeat.

Undercard Highlights

The co-main event saw Jai Opetaia stop Noel Mikaelian in Round 9 to retain his cruiserweight titles in a methodical, one-sided performance. Opetaia broke Mikaelian down and the referee halted it with the challenger still on his feet. Afterward, Opetaia called for a unification with David Benavidez.

Other notable results included Da’Mazion Vanhouter scoring a first-round knockout over Raphael Akpejiori in a heavyweight bout and several decision wins on the prelims. The card streamed on Paramount+ and drew a strong crowd at T-Mobile Arena during Mexican Independence Day weekend.

Garcia’s quick, clinical victory strengthened his claim as one of boxing’s top attractions at welterweight and set up potential high-profile unifications. Benn now faces a rebuild after falling short in his biggest night.
